About Me
Michelle Crim
Michelle Crim is an illustrator working out of the same city she was born in: Atlanta, Georgia. Michelle was a dreamy kid, always finding herself lost in her vivid daydreams. She spreads the child-like wonder she still experiences to others in the form of whimsical, charming illustrations to be enjoyed by all. Her work always incorporates a wide range of highly saturated colors that evoke a strong sense of energy and excitement. Her body of creative work focuses a great deal on lighthearted, playful characters and silly scenarios. Michelle has a BFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design and is currently seeking employment in the publishing world as an illustrator.
Artist's Statement
My goal as an illustrator is to inspire my viewers, young and old, to embrace their inner child. In a world rife with taxes, exams, and boring meetings, I want to provide weary souls with a place of refuge. A place where the colors never fade and your only concern is what crayon you're going to use. A place where that empty T.V. box is actually a pirate ship and that broom is your noble steed. A land of simplicity and unlimited possibilities. I want my work to nurture that child-like sense of wonder in all of us like a mother nurtures her son after he scraped his knee. Whenever I put pencil to paper, I always think “How can I breathe life into the ordinary?” “How can I capture the unseen energy of the seemingly mundane?” “How can I make people care about the things that go unnoticed?” My approach to art is less about technicalities and more about character. It is one thing to depict what your eye sees with great accuracy. But if you capture the very essence of what makes your subject your subject, you have achieved the extraordinary. It is my goal as an illustrator to treat my subject, no matter who or what they may be, as more than a simple subject. I want to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary.
